SAO PAULO (ESPN Brasil) – Brazil soccer great Pele has re-entered an intensive care unit at Sao Paulo's Albert Einstein Hospital, according to ESPN Brasil. His condition appears to have deteriorated after he left the unit earlier this week.
The hospital stated that no fresh information has been received.
Pele, an 80-year-old three-time World Cup champion, was re-admitted to the ICU due to acid reflux, according to ESPN Brasil. He had a colon tumor removed earlier this month and was released from the intensive care unit on Tuesday.
He claimed in an Instagram post to followers after leaving the ICU that he was ready for "90 minutes, plus extra time."
"Friends, each day brings me a bit closer to feeling well. I'm excited to go back into the game, but I'll need a few more days to heal "he penned
"While I'm here, I try to spend as much time as possible with my family and rest. Thank you so much for all of the heartfelt notes. We'll be back together shortly!"
Pele has had hip issues for years and is unable to walk without assistance. Before the COVID-19 epidemic, he had already reduced his public appearances, and he has made few needless trips outside his home near Santos since then.
