An Afghanistan Cricket Board official announced on Saturday that the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series between Afghanistan and Pakistan has been relocated from the UAE to Sri Lanka (July 24).

The series, which will begin on September 1 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Hambantota, was originally scheduled to be played in the UAE, but the hosts were forced to modify their plans owing to a lack of venues in the area.

According to Cricbuzz, ACB approached the UAE and Oman about hosting the series against Pakistan, but both nations were unable to accommodate them owing to other commitments. After the conclusion of India's primary T20 tournament, the balance of the IPL 2021 will be played in the UAE in September, and the country will also host the World T20 alongside Oman.

ACB had considered presenting the series in Zimbabwe, but had to abandon their preparations owing to an increase of Covid cases in the nation.

"Yes, the ODI series against Pakistan will be played in Sri Lanka," ACB media manager Hikmat Hassan told Cricbuzz on Saturday. This will be the first bilateral series between these two countries, and the matches will be more important because they are part of the ICC ODI Super League.

Pakistan is presently in fifth place with 40 points after nine matches, while Afghanistan is in eighth place with 30 points after winning all three matches thus far.
